The legend of thieves

Where it all began…

Four 15th century French thieves formulated and wore a special blend of vinegar, clove, rosemary and other botanicals that they believed provided protection while they were stealing. The thieves were stealing from both the living and the dead – so they were in need of extra protection!

Supported by researchers

As a matter of fact, many studies support the same sayings. An older study found that diffusing the oil blend significantly lowered the airborne levels of three different types of bacteria. A lot more research has been done on the benefits of the individual components of the blend.

A study by Weber State University (Ogden, UT) during 1997 found that diffused the essential oil blend has a 99.96 percent kill rate against airborne bacteria after only minutes of exposure. Studies conducted at showed the antibacterial effectiveness of the oil blend against airborne microorganisms. A study against the gram negative Pseudomonas aeruginosa showed a kill rate of 99.6 percent after just 12 minutes of diffusion. The essential oil blend was then diffused into the hood for a given time. There was an 82% reduction in M. luteus bioaerosol, a 96% reduction in the P. aeruginosa bioaerosol, and a 44% reduction in the S. aureus bioaerosol following 10 min of exposure. Diffusion of the oil blend can significantly reduce the number of aerosol-borne bacteria. (Chao S.C., Young D.G., Oberg C.J. 1998)
