Water Consumption & Detoxification

How much water should you drink daily?

There’s nothing quite as refreshing as drinking a tall glass of water. But there’s much more to water than meets the eye—or dry mouth. For instance, did you know that your body contains more water than any other substance? Or that every system in your body needs it to function properly?Water gets rid of waste, regulates body temperature, provides cushioning for joints, and can protect sensitive tissue—along with a sea of other benefits. But are you a fish out of water when it comes to hydration?

How much water should you drink?

You may have heard that drinking 64 ounces (2L) of water a day is standard, but according to the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicines, you should be drinking a little more. The adequate intake (AI) recommends around 95 ounces (2.8L) for women over the age of 19 and 131 ounces (3.9L) for men over the age of 19. When you’re figuring out how much water to drink, consider these factors:

  • Age: Children need less water, while the elderly need more.
  • Activity level: Whether you’re running a 5K or a marathon, athletes lose more water through perspiration. It’s important to refuel before, during, and after workouts.
  • Pregnancy/breastfeeding: Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should increase water consumption.
  • Climate: While you’re soaking up the sun, make sure to replenish your fluids more often.
  • Health: When you’re experiencing symptoms of illness like vomiting or fever, make sure to increase your water to stay hydrated.

When in doubt, listen to your body. Studies show that humans feel thirst before any negative effects of dehydration begin. So when you’re thirsty, drink up!

Why you need water?

  • Water is essential for your organs, tissues, and cells. Here’s what water does for your body:
  • Keeps your body temperature within a normal range.
  • Smooths and softens your joints.
  • Protects your spine.
  • Helps eliminate waste through urine, sweat, and bowel movements.
  • Helps sustain endurance when working out.
  • Quickens your brain function.

Can I have too much water?

The answer is yes, but it’s very rare. Hyponatremia—when you drink so much water in a short amount of time that it throws off the balance of sodium in your blood—can happen if you exercise vigorously for a long period of time and then drink a lot of water very quickly. However, you can keep your post-workout hydration covered by choosing beverages packed with electrolytes to keep the balance in check!

Tips for staying hydrated

  1. Keep a water bottle close by.
  2. Skip sugary drinks. Although you’re getting fluid from juice, soda, or alcohol, water is the best source for hydration.
  3. Drink a glass of water before and during each meal.
  4. Hydrate before, during, and after sweating it out at the gym.

Special tips by Betty over Detoxification

Please drink enough water to avoid serious detox effect such as skin rash and itchiness when you use Essential Oils!

The most popular cause of skin rash / itchiness after using EOs is due to the fact that, the large intestine is stuck with lots of toxins. If you think you poo on a daily basis, sorry, I think your gastrointestinal track is probably pretty dirty. Insoluble fiber, water and exercise are the key elements that our large intestine needs in order to poo regularly. The longer the poo stays inside our body, the worst, and lead to a series of chronic diseases or even cancer.

As therapeutic-graded EOs induce toxins very effectively, if we do not drink enough water, the toxins will come out through our largest organ, which is our skin! I often recommend people to drink at least 2-3L of water if you are healthy and not using EOs as our body needs 1.75L water for us to function well; if you have some conditions or are using EOs on a daily basis, you need 4L; if you are sick, you definitely need 5L or more.

So if you do not want to experience this preventable detox condition, please please please drink enough water!

Ok, if the detox symptoms come out already, the first thing you need to look after is your colon, instead of asking what oils to use! If you know how to use enema, please go ahead and use it and get your colon as clean as possible. You can also perform a colon cleanse by adding 14g organic salt to 2L distilled water, stir it thoroughly and drink 500ml within minutes. The rest 1500ml should be consumed within the next 45-60 minutes. For maximum result, please do this colon cleanse between 5am and 7am or 7am and 9am, less ideal, and intake only vegetables and fruits for the rest of the day. Don’t forget 2L of water!

For supplements, you may consider taking Cascara Sagrada Powder Bark that supports normal peristalsis; Psyllium seed powder and mix of fibers that keeps your colon clean; Enzymes that helps to detoxify , digest and cleanse, Supplements with spirulina, Omega-3, Probiotics, etc. after you are done with the colon cleanse.

If you believe your colon is very clean, please note that defecate once daily probably don’t guarantee a clean colon, you can use MSM, Omega-3 + Probiotics.

If some detox effects such as rash.and itchiness come to your skin, you may consider using Lavender lotion, vegetable base oils mixture, kids lotion, [an ointment that could be used on animals], [Coconut oil with Myrrh, Tea Tree, Lavender, Frankincense, Roman Chamomile and Helichrysum EOs] to soothe the itchiness.

If you are very aggressive like me and do not want to miss this ‘chance’ to detox your body ‘vigorously’, you may use EOs like Frankincense, Sacred Frankincense, Blended oil that can put your stress away, etc. For instance relieve of itchiness, (but then the detox effect will be further enhanced), you can use Lemon, Lavender & Peppermint, Tea Tree, [blended oil with different Tea Tree oils, Rosemary and Clove], Roman Chamomile, [blended oil that can purify], [a blend that could make you peace and calming]…

If your purpose is to sooth the itchiness, try 1-5% Blue Tansy on spot. For better result, add a little bit, around 5%, of calendula oil as part of the carrier oil, AND take supplements like MSM and Ningxia wolfberry juice.

I often said: everything comes from stress! Please stay positive on this detox journey, do not further create stress for yourself, you have had enough apparently! You know, when you are stressed you are acidifying your body and leading to a lower immunity–don’t put yourself into a vicious cycle!
